headed by Dr. Gil Gambash; currently comprises four (4) PhD students and five (5) MA students. The laboratory focuses on various issues in Mediterranean history, as well as on current debates relating to the historiographical discourse thereof. An ISF-sponsored project is examining various aspects of Mediterranean empires in antiquity, from questions of logistics, harbors, fleets and non-state players, to problems of local and regional identities. Other, more theoretical, channels of enquiry include paradigmatic approaches to the unity of the Mediterranean, from Braudel to the Corrupting Sea, through various indicators of connectivity and mobility. The laboratory is intensely involved in the establishment and activity of the Haifa Center for Mediterranean History, sponsored by Yad Hanadiv.
